Genre

This new idea will be straight forward. It'll be a drama piece as the story is related to certain happenings. NOTE, some ideas for this drama short film do reflect some small situations but others are made up to make a stronger story.

Change of Plans...

Thinking about my plans and how they would attempt to work. I came to the decision of not doing the Reality Show idea. The reason for this is that for someone like me who has not had any filming and directing experience, i believe it is a hard job to reflect on different TV show styles and sort out costume, scenery. This idea is a good one but i believe its something i cannot do. BUT, i have came up with a new idea that i've already started to write the script and drawn the storyboards for. it hasn't got a name but i will upload a video later to talk about what it is. Joe Donnison, who was the lead for the Reality Show idea, will be in this new idea as it will contain a stronger storyline and a more realistic point of view on things. Most importantly reflects on my past experiences and created an idea that will produce detailed plot with meaning and hopefully inspiration.

Ancillary Task Poster ideas

  • Joe pointing the remote to the centre. Inspired idea by the Adam Sandler film, Click.
  • TV on standby, TV remote shown on the bottom of the page.
  • TV on show, Joe 'inside'. Pressing against the screen.

Sound

For this short film, I feel like dialogue will be important to use as some scenes will need a hint. Since I am referencing other TV shows, I'll need some sort of message to the audience except scenery. Characterisation will also be needed and I've made sure I have picked the right people for the parts they will suit.

Reality Show: Script Repost

Genre

My short film's genre is Fantasy. However there are different types of genres due to the story taking place in different shows. I would say any other genres being focussed on are:
  • Drama
  • Sci-Fi
  • Horror

Other ideas for extra footage?

I've had ideas of other things i can do to include in my short film or to have as deleted scenes.
I've had ideas like:
  • Doctor Who
  • Sherlock
  • Waterloo Road
  • Big Brother
  • Chase scene
The only thing i'm concerned about is how to do these scenes but if i know i can or can't for certain, i will make a list of what i will be doing.

Ancillary Task

Main Character: Joe

My friend, Joe Donnison, will be playing the main character in my short film. I picked Joe because he has a interest in acting and I knew he would be the right person. Joe takes a Performance Studies course that supports his skills in his acting. Throughout the short film, dialogue is only used to have a understanding of the scene whereas others will need to require body language. This is why I picked him because he can pick up characterisation easily.

100th Post: There's More...

Going through my short film, I have the risk of having too much or not enough filming to fit the duration of a short film. Around five minutes or a few minutes longer.

If I don't have enough:

I will be writing an extra script that'll go in-between some point of the short film to add a bit more in the story. The scenes will be different to what I already have planned out so I have opportunity to go different directions with the short film.

If I do have enough:

After putting the actual short film on a disc. I will put deleted scene on another. This will allow to demonstrate the other ideas I have stuck with and filmed. With the deleted scenes, I will also include bloopers and possibly some clips of before and after filming.

Script Update

After finishing my script, I have realised tit isn't exactly the right layout for a script. After going through each scene, I changed the font and removed the line between each scene (reason I done so was to make it look tidy). After change the font to "Consolas", and bold the titles of each scene, things were starting to fall in place.

Not One But Two

11.    Street

Joe arrives in a strange, dark street. It looks cold and bitter, making him wonder the type of show he is in. He quickly looks around to see if he recognizes it. He pauses as he remembers what the place is. It turns out to be the horror film he skipped before this mad journey took place.

JOE:

Oh god.

Just down the street, a dark figure appears. Looking directly at him. The dark figure is shown to have a knife. Joe panics to find his way out, he constantly presses the button on the remote but nothing happens. He hears a failure like sound coming from it. He looks around to find a garage door opened slightly. Joe runs towards this as the dark figure runs too.

Garage

After getting away, Joe finds himself in a garage that looks deserted. He puts himself to the wall as he hears the stranger run passed. Managing to find a light he explores to find some sort of way out, little he knows the stranger is behind him. After taking a footstep and hearing another come closer, he turns around to find a knife him. Joe screams then the screen goes to a TV channel change effect, to look like the channel lost connection.

12.   Sitting Room

*Zoom out of the screen* revealing the actual happenings was watched. A guy is shown sitting down, reading a TV magazine, he looks up to the screen and looks disappointed.

GUY:

Is that it?

He then gets his remote and changes the channel.

End.

TV channel switch effect

Joe looks bored, sick of the lack of entertainment on TV.

Flicking through channel by channel, seeking for something to watch to pass the time.

He leaves their seat and goes into the kitchen.

Non diegetic sound leading into the next scene, microwave sound.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 2 - Kitchen

Watching the popcorn spin and pop in the microwave,

The facial expression hasn't changed; looking dull and bored.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 3 - Sitting Room

He sighs at nothing else to do, he continues flicking through channels. A night time scene is shown on the screen then suddenly he looks shocked that day time went to night time. He rushes to the window looking at the sky knowing time changed incredibly fast.

Watcher: What the hell?!

He looks at the TV confused at what he is witnessing.

He returns to his seat and looks at the remote; he points it at the screen and changes the channel.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 4 - Forest

From the click of the remote, the watcher appears to be in a forest. He looks around, shocked into what happened. As he looks around, wondering where exactly he is. He sees a zoologist.

Zoologist: Now if you look closely, you can see our next animal on our ‘to view’ list. A wield Crocodile.

*One of the TV crew throws a toy over on the grass, attempting to make it unnoticeable.*

Joe: Err…Excuse me, where am I-

Zoologist: Oh my god, ladies and gentlemen, we’ve found a person living in this forest!

Joe: Excuse me? I don’t live here I just pop-

Zoologist: An amazing discovery, ‘Hello! Do you understand English?

Joe looks at the failure of the show he is witnessing in front of him; he looks back on the remote and presses the Back button.

Scene 5 - Sitting Room

With a click of the button, he’s back in his sitting room. He looks at the remote, thinking to himself he has a slight idea of what to do, and grins.

*Looks at the camera and winks*

Joe: Wait! Since when did I have a camera in my house?

Director: CUT, CUT, CUT! Joe, you’re supposed to wink and press the button. Don’t state the obvious!

Joe presses the button, hopefully returning home or somewhere else…

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 6 – Dark Room

Joe appears in a dark room. He looks around to try and figure where he is.

Joe: Now where am I now?

All of a sudden, a red light appears. Heavy breathing, slowly becoming louder.

Joe: W…who are you?

No reply, only to hear the breathing getting louder and louder.

Joe: S...Seriously, this better be “You’ve Been Framed”

Again no reply.

Director: CUT, CUT, CUT. The microphone isn't working… LIGHTS.

Lights turn on showing a man in black with a Darth Vader mask, creating a very anti-climactic moment.

Scene 7 - House

Joe ends up in a random room with two other people arguing. He feels very uncomfortable to do anything.

Girl/Boy: “So who’s he! One of your boyfriend’s mam?”

Mother: “You don’t understand, he isn’t my ‘boyfriend”

Pointing at Joe as he looks very confused in the happening he’s witnessing

Girl/Boy: “WHO IS HE THEN?!”

Mother: “HE’S YOUR DAD”

*EastEnders outro effect*

Joe stares at the two, speechless. Knowing he’s replaced some character in a plot line. Before the theme music plays, he zaps himself out of the awkward situation.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 8 - Bedroom

Nothing happens. Joe looks curious into what sort of thing he’s zapped himself or zapped out of the screen. He looks around, seeing if there’s any difference, any cameras, pop ups but nothing.

Joe: Well this is- what the hell is that?

He looks just below him, subtitles.

Joe: Great. How do I turn this off?

Fiddling with the remote, trying to find out how to turn it off. He accidentally turns on another feature.

(Subtitle actions shown on screen.)

Joe speaks again however; no sound comes out his mouth. He looks down to the subtitles again and notices it mocking him. He gets frustrated, keeps pressing buttons, and accidentally presses the rewind button that stops at the beginning of the scene. However this time he’s aware of what happens and prevents the whole muting accident.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 9 - Stage

Joe finds himself sitting down, with a talk show host. He looks around to see an audience looking uncomfortable.

Host: Hey, it’s okay, things will be fine in the end.

Joe: Wait what?

Host: Joe’s girlfriend is on the show, guys.

Joe: My WHAT?

The ‘girlfriend’ walks on stage.

Girlfriend: HOW *bleeping noise covering the language* DARE YOU? YOU *bleep noise repeated*

Audience looks disturbed by the behavior. Joe runs off stage while trying to press the button on the remote to disappear.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Scene 10 – Bedroom

“Okay so I’m back? Please say I am” *begging*

Mobile phone rings, No Caller ID. Joe answers with a puzzled face.

“Are you alone?”

“Who’s this?”

“I can see you…”

Joe looks up to the stairs and hears a little snicker.

“You’re upstairs…”

“What?”

“Bye”

“WAI-“

Scene 11 – Cookery Class

Titles appear, introducing a cooking show featuring Jack Dodds.

Jack: Hello and welcome to “Weekly Cooking” with me, Jack Dodds. On today’s show, we have a special guest, please welcome Joe Donnison!

The camera moves slightly to the right of the screen, showing Joe confused of his appearance on the show.

Joe: Hi?

Jack: What are we making today Joe?

Joe: Well, we are um…some…food?

Jack: Say what we are making now or I swear to god.  *He whispers*

Slowly lifting a knife up from the bench, while smiling to the camera. While doing so, Joe slowly lifts the remote up and zaps away. Jack then picks up a cake (or anything) up from underneath and places it on the table, smiling nervously.

(Last scene will be posted once completed.)
